Especially when busy / mentally “at capacity” I think it’s really helpful to have some good default behaviors.

Here are a couple of low-effort thoughts on defaults that I could chose which would improve my life:

  • I’d like to have some fun traditions. Such as:
  • Having high quality 1 question per week that I try to get ppl to answer.
    • E.g., “What’s your favorite piece of writing?”
    • What are some good ways that you’ve met friends in Berkley?
    • What’s the most interesting question you’ve been asked lately? Of all time?
  • Walking around
    • I’d originally thought that I might want to have a zumba tradition, but I’m always too exhausted for this. However I think I could enjoy walking.
  • Have 1 personal goal per week.
    • These are allowed to be very simple like “go walk around”
    • or “cook something”
    • or “buy rice pudding”
    • or “don’t waste time on technology” (probably more specific operationalization is better)
  • I’d like to have the following default outside of work activities:
    • Walk around
    • Talk to ppl (or write to ppl)
    • Sleep
  • I’d like to have a strong default of not just consuming stuff online
    • I suspect that eventually there’s a balance, there is some really good stuff online that I’d like to read at some point, but in terms of defaults, it feels like avoiding this stuff is a safer default.
    • Here’s one way to make this sound more fun:
      • If you can’t even avoid human-generated content, then you have no hope against AI generated content optimized for engagement.
